The research
Connecting genomic variation with environmental change.
Climate change is reshaping ecosystems across Canada, creating an urgent need to understand how species and populations will respond to future conditions. Advances in genomics now allow us to quantify adaptive diversity, identify populations at greatest risk, and forecast climate vulnerability.
GenARCC is a Government of Canada initiative developing genomic tools and national capacity to monitor climate-change impacts, predict future vulnerability, and translate this knowledge into climate adaptation and mitigation policy. Spanning fisheries, wildlife, forestry, agriculture and human health, the project demonstrates how genomics can help future-proof environmental management and policy decisions.
